Extinction Rebellion Delft protests on campus
During an hour-long protest on campus the newly formed Delft branch of Extinction Rebellion (XR Delft) presented itself to the TU Delft community.
With lunch hour at its peak, XR Delft climbed the picnic tables behind the Aula. Armed with protest signs the group of nearly fifteen people presented five demands of action they believe the university should take to combat climate and ecological change.
The five demands were written on cardboards: declare a climate emergency, tell the truth, implement ethics and climate change in all curriculums, carbon neutral by 2025 and citizens climate assembly. (Photo's: Marjolein van der Veldt)
Despite the small group of protesters, there were many enforcers on the ground. Delta counted two policemen, two local enforcers, and three campus security guards. All in all the peaceful protest took up no more than one hour and ended with a march through the Mekelpark. (MvdV)

Scientist Rebellion ook op A12
81 wetenschappers van Scientist Rebellion hebben zaterdag 11 maart samen met Extiction Rebellion de A12 in Den Haag bezet in actie tegen de jaarlijkse miljardensubsidies voor de fossiele industrie. Gehuld in witte labjassen behoorden de wetenschappers tot de klimaatactivisten die op de weg bleven zitten totdat er een waterkanon op ze gericht werd. In een persbericht laat Scientist Rebellion weten dat er daarna meer dan 37 wetenschappers zijn gearresteerd.

“Om een leefbare toekomst veilig te stellen, moeten we naar een crisismodus overschakelen”, zegt de Nijmeegse microbioloog Marjan Smeulders in een persbericht. “Wetenschappers hebben artikelen en rapporten geschreven brieven gestuurd, petities ondertekend en marsen gelopen om dit duidelijk te maken aan politici. Maar zij behandelen de klimaatcrisis niet als de existentiële bedreiging die het is. Daarom hebben wij ons aangesloten bij het protest van Extinction Rebellion.” (SB)
