Welcome to Delft

International residents of Delft can learn more about their municipality, the services available to them and which organisations cater to their specific needs by attending Welcome to Delft.

Gemeente Delft is once again sponsoring Welcome to Delft; an event introducing recently arrived international residents to the city of Delft and providing them with the opportunity to gather information about topics which can otherwise prove difficult to navigate for non-Dutch speaking residents. Held on Saturday, November 1, 2014, Welcome to Delft will have over fifteen organisations represented and is expected to have over one hundred residents attend.

Whilst the main focus of the event is on information dissemination, organisers are hoping to make it a fun day for the whole family. Held in the DOK library on Vesteplein in central Delft, Welcome to Delft has information available in English covering topics such as: health care, housing, employment and education, as well as providing activities for younger family members. Marjan den Boer of Delft Marketing, who is coordinating the event on behalf of Gemeente Delft, says organisers hope the event can be enjoyed by young and old, noting that “there’s a children’s play area and reading room within the library for younger children and during the event on Saturday there will be a story time in English at 11:00.”

The event will also showcase some of the many cultural events and organisations in Delft; providing information about exhibitions, films and theatre performances catering to Delft’s English speaking community. Annual event TedX Delft will also be represented, giving residents an opportunity to find out more about the 2015 event and any upcoming spin-off sessions.

With the last Welcome to Delft event taking place in 2012, all international residents who have arrived within the last two years should have received a letter inviting them to the event according to den Boer. Even if you haven’t received an official invitation, all international residents of Delft are encouraged to attend the event and will be officially welcome to Delft by Vice-Mayor Ferrie Förster who is hosting this year’s event.

The event takes place in the DOK Centrum Library at Vesteplein 100, between 10:15 and 12:00 on Saturday, November 1,, 2014. If you are interested in attending the event please register by emailing your name, the organisation for which you work or study (if applicable) and the number of family members who will be attending, to expats@delft.nl.
