Three million registrations for MOOCs

TU Delft has welcomed the three millionth registration for online courses (MOOCs). Registrations for the worldwide available Massive Open Online Courses peaked in mid-March, when the first lockdown started in many countries. The number of registrations then tripled from around six thousand to around twenty thousand per week. This peak decreased again around the summer.

Since the first MOOC in 2013 (Solar Energy), the TU has expanded its offer to more than 120 courses. Topics range from health to energy transition and from quantum computing to sustainable cities and circular economy.

Lebanese Mohammed El Maakoui proved that the online courses have great impact. He took the MicroMaster in Solar Engineering, a series of 5 MOOCs including exams. He received an exemption for these courses when he started his master electrical engineering. Recently El Maakoui graduated, making him the first Delft engineer to follow part of his program as a MOOC.
