News in Brief

Stinkfoot returnsThe man who gained worldwide ‘fame’ a few years when he was dubbed ‘sweaty foot man’ and denied entrance to the TU Delft library, has recently enrolled at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

‘Sweaty foot man’ was the scourge of the TU Delft Library six years ago, when he would enter the library and take off his shoes while studying, making all the other students in the library nauseous from the terrible smell of his feet. The stink of his feet even sickened students studying on the library’s upper floors.

,Waternet prize

TU Delft PhD student Arne Verliefde has won the 2009 Waternet Water Cycle Innovation Prize. He received the award and a check for 10,000 euro for his thesis ‘Rejection of organic micropollutants by high pressure membranes (NF/RO)’. The prize money is intended for study trips and further scientific development. TU Delft and Waternet, a water research company, hope that the prize will serve as an incentive for research in the field of the water cycles.

,Van Damme grant

The Delft University Fund’s ‘Marina van Damme grant’ has been awarded to Marline Claessens, a 2004 graduate of TU Delft’s Faculty of Aerospace Engineering who currently works as a space systems engineer at Verhaert Space in Kruibeke, Belgium. This annual award, which is given to a talented and enterprising young female graduate of TU Delft and is worth 9,000 euro, will enable Ms Claessens to attend the space studies program at the International Space University at the NASA Ames Research Centre in California (USA).
