Astronaut lands in AulaHe claims the dubious distinction of being ‘The Last Man on the Moon’. Thirty years ago Harrison Schmitt bobbed aaround the moon valley, Taurus-Littrow, with his lunar rover, and now the ex-astronaut will be at the TUD’s Aula, on Saturday at 1pm, to explain why Mankind should go back to the moon.
Schmitt has been invited to Delft by the Lunar Explorers Society (Lunex), an international society of moon researchers that lobbies for a permanent moon base. Lunex says the moon is the place to be when the fossil fuels on Earth run out, because of its sun-powered energy possibilities and its abundance of helium 3, and isomer that is the ideal fuel for clean nuclear fusion. Schmitt claims that one helium 3 power station can provide half of the USA’s electricity. Schmitt is one of the five America’s politicians who have been out in space. Following his career as Apollo astronaut, Schmitt became a Republican Senator from for the state of Texas.

This years ‘Nice Weather Games’ (Mooi Weer Spelen) will be held on June 8th and 9th, when hundreds of performance artists from across Europe perform on the streets of Delft. Plays, comic acts, music, animation%and there will also be a marathon performance on Sunday at Oude Delft 123, starting at 1pm, when, every 15 minutes, the same play will be performed but each time in a different way.
