New international student society for MSc students – Industry recruits graduates for rail construction New international student society for MSc studentsTU’s executive board and the student council are thinking about starting a new student society especially for international MSc students, as the board expects 25 percent of all MSc students to come from outside The Netherlands in a few years.

Presently, it’s not common practice for foreign students to join Dutch student societies. However, according to Jeroen Coppelmans, president of the student council, these societies are busy thinking about how they can serve MSc students. In the Delft International Students’ Society (Diss), several international student societies already cooperate. The student council wants to consult Diss regarding their needs and organisational structure. Coppelmans: ”We don’t know how a new society would function. Can MSc students find time to do administration, if they’re only here for two years?”

Industry recruits graduates for rail construction

Three companies are sponsoring an employee from Civil Engineering’s rail construction department in an effort to recruit graduates to rail construction. For companies like NS Railinfrabeheer (NS is Holland’s main railway company), Arcadis, and Strukton railinfra, it’s a chance to educate potential employees. The joint-venture hopes to attract about five graduating students a year by improving its promotional material, organising excursions, and hosting a rail construction day. Presently, only two graduating students, together with six PhD students, are working at rail construction.
