Kick-start your summer with the 2014 ZOMERFestival

The city of Delft will play host the annual ZOMERFestival on May 23 to 25, 2014.
Now on its eighth edition, the festival combines musical acts with scientific exploration, transforming the city center into a colossal parade of music, food, art, technology and the spoken word.

Organized in cooperation with TU Delft, InHolland and De Haagse Hogeschool, the three-day event aims to put Delft firmly on the map as a centre of technological innovation.

For the first time, the ZOMERFestival will be held in an area adjacent to the Science Center Delft (Kanaalweg). Featuring a massive line up of top artists –from funky house DJ Benny Rodriguez to Dutch hip-hop trio Great Minds and even De Wereld Draait Door’s eclectic houseband Chef’s Special– this year’s live performances offer a diverse mix of musical talent, including the finalist of the highly anticipated Sing Song Contest Final. Visitors can also sample the creative cuisine catered by the Rollende Keukens (Rolling Kitchens) food trucks while exploring the festival’s special exhibitions.

Showcasing the latest innovations in racing, recycling and healthcare, the ZOMERFestival gives visitors a glimpse into the future. Watch as solar, wind and human-powered vehicles race along the Schie at the Champion’s Pit Stop and see the ‘Amfibieauto’ and DUT Racing Team’s electric car in action. The Apollo Racing Team will also be on hand to demonstrate their high-speed, eco-friendly vehicle, which can travel thousands of kilometres on the equivalent of one litre of petrol.

Alternatively, the Hospital of the Future will reveal how medical technology is progressing at a rapid pace. Surgeries carried out with Google Glass, temperature-measuring plasters and exoskeletons used for mobility are among the current healthcare innovations that will be on display. At the same time, the most recent developments in upcycling will be unveiled at the No Waste No More exhibition as visitors discover how to make copper from leftover ashes or how flip-flops can be printed from plastic cups. Futurologists and trend-watchers will also be present to share their predictions and valuable insights.

“From young to old and from scientists to food-lovers, there will be something for everyone,” says TU Delft Communication Advisor Anne van Straten. “We will combine technology with the atmosphere of the big music festivals, the surprising cuisine of Rollende Keukens and the ‘city feel’ of the Parade.” ZOMERFestival is the perfect meeting place for music lovers and curious minds alike.
