Humans of TU Delft: Marije Seinen

Who are the people who study and work at TU Delft? We meet them in Humans of TU Delft where they talk about their work or other activities. Before graduating, Design for Interaction (IO) student Marije Seinen wanted to know what to expect from the job market. That’s why she took on an internship with local service design agency Muzus.

“I’m now about halfway through my internship and after I finish here I’m going to graduate. I did it to broaden my knowledge, to see how things work in a company, and to learn what I can expect after graduation.

I just finished working on a project for the social services department at the municipality of Amsterdam that focused on homeless people. A couple of the designers here interviewed homeless people during the summer. We analysed all of those interviews and we took a look at what kind of different homeless people there are. The assignment was to see how the municipality of Amsterdam can improve their service to these people because they are experiencing a lot of challenges. We looked at what kind of people there are, what their challenges are, how they can overcome them and how the employees of the municipality can support them in getting back on track.

In the end we did a workshop and brought the social services employees together to discuss the findings and created steps they can take to improve their service. It was really nice because these people were really motivated to implement the changes.

I think this company has a lot of similarities with the master’s I’m doing because it is doing projects that focus on humans. It really wants to know the needs and motivations of people for designing. I thought it was really cool to find a company that was so in line with what I thought about design.”
