What, in the deepest sense, motivates engineers to face the uncertainties, the risks, the responsibilities and the rigidity of technology? Is passion at stake here? Or do we have to wake up the hero in the engineer of tomorrow?” These are some of the questions the co-workers of the student pastorate posed on the website www.heroic.nl.
Ton Meijknecht and Hans van Drongelen, youth pastors at TU Delft, organised the ‘Heroic Engineering’, a symposium about the quest for a new role for the engineer in society. Last week TU students discussed topics such as ‘The fascinated engineer’ and The honour of an engineer’ with international guests and TU professors.
