Fact of the week: TU Delft Observatory

Visible on the horizon is one of TU Delft’s oldest observatories.

It was part of the former building of the Department of Geodesy, built between 1892 and 1895. The architect, Jacobus van Lokhorst, built a number of university buildings and laboratories in Delft, Leiden, Groningen, Utrecht and other places. His buildings were built in the Neo-Holland Renaissance style which was popular at the time. It revived styles from Renaissance architecture and incorporated some French elements as well.
