Lustrum Krashna Musika
Delft has its very own music association, Krashna Musika, which is turning 50 years old. To celebrate, it is holding two lustrum concerts this weekend. On Friday, the orchestra is going to The Hague, to the Royal Conservatory of Music. On Saturday, it will perform at TU Delft, in the auditorium of the Aula. One hundred and fifty students from Delft will play two classical music pieces, ‘Eternal Light’ by Howard Goodall and ‘Gadfly Suite’ by Dmitri Shostakovich. The orchestra will be joined by vocalists Hadewich Meester, Matevž Kajdiž and Frank Hermans. Tickets are still available on the Krashna website and cost €12.50 for students, and €17.50 for others.
NoWee
Delft has a lot of student fraternities, each with its own unique character. DSC and Virgiel are the two big fraternities, but there are also some smaller associations like De Koornbeurs and the LGBT youth association Outsite. Next week these smaller associations will host the ‘NoWee’, a series of parties and activities similar to the OWee, but held only at the smaller fraternities. The NoWee will kick off on Sunday afternoon with the Wolpop party at Wolbodo with live music, cocktails and craft beers. The rest of the week will also be packed with events like the cocktail night at the ‘Bolk’ association on Monday, a pub quiz at ‘De Koornbeurs’ on Tuesday and a karaoke night at Outsite on Thursday.
St. Patrick’s Day
Grab your green hats from the closet and get your Guinness pints ready, because this Saturday is St. Patrick’s Day. The day commemorates Ireland’s most important patron saint, Saint Patrick, and the arrival of Christianity in the country. The Irish country and folk band, Arborist, will play at the Rietveld Theatre. The performance starts at 20:30 and tickets are €17.50. If you are more interested in the festive side of ‘St. Patty’s’, go to de Oude Jan café in Delft, where an Irish party, including a live band, will be held. If you are interested in an even bigger party, take the bike or train to The Hague, where the Irish pubs are going all out. An example is O’Casey’s.This café is located at the Grote Markt and has live rugby and Irish food and drink specials throughout the day. Of course, there will be a big party in the evening where people can dress up in green and drink beer.
