De Delta Lloyd Solar Boat van de TU Delft is derde geworden in de Frisian Solar Challenge 2010. Winnaar werd het Privat Energy Solarboatteam uit Leeuwarden, dat vanaf de start in elke etappe heel hoog eindigde.
De Friezen hadden uiteindelijk voor de Elfstedentocht voor zonneboten 11.26.32 nodig. Daarmee waren ze krap een half uur sneller dan nummer twee, Gowring Energy Sunseeker. De boot van dat team finishte met een tijd van 11.55.45 een half uur voor de Delftse boot.
Pech
Het Delftse team had vanaf het begin te kampen met pech. Na de proloog en nog voor de eerste echte etappe liep een onverlaat over de boot en vernielde daarbij zonnecellen. De schade die dat opleverde kon tijdens de race, die tot en met zaterdag duurde, niet meer worden hersteld.
Afstelling
Wel lukte het om tijdens de rustdag op woensdag de afstelling van de boot te verbeteren. Daardoor wist het team op donderdag als snelste het eerste deel van de etappe, van Bolsward naar Harlingen af te leggen. Aan het eind van de complete etappe, die eindigde in Franeker, was Delft tweede.
Glansrijk
Vrijdag werd de Delftse boot in de etappe Franeker – Dokkum tweede, zeven minuten achter winnaar Private Energy Solarboatteam. Tijdens de slotetappe van Dokkum naar Leeuwarden werd het Delftse team glansrijk eerste met een voorsprong van 50 seconden op de eindwinnaars uit Leeuwarden.

The annual ‘Christmas dinner’ is one of the great traditions in TU Delft student houses. Usually these dinners are of course held around Christmas time, but exceptions are indeed made, because it’s not always possible to stick to an appropriate date. In fact, sometimes these dinners are held long after the holiday season has ended. One such extreme example is the student house, Huize Avondlust, on the E. du Perronlaan, as resident, Roos Lievaart, explains: “We usually host our Christmas dinner in June, because in December everyone’s busy with Sinterklaas and Christmas celebrations with their own families. And then after that people go on vacation. Consequently, the date was constantly being changed, until finally it was summer.” Last year there was no Christmas dinner at all, says Lievaart, who also doubts if she’s ever actually attended one of Huize Avondlust’s Christmas dinners. “I moved in last summer, and indeed around that time we all got together for a gezellig dinner that seemed like a postponed Christmas dinner, but I’m not actually sure if it was.”
Occasionally in the past these Christmas dinners were held as early as February, adds Lievaart’s housemate, Sheila Lagumdzija, but this year she says there’re no fixed dinner plans as of yet. She thinks the 2008 Christmas dinner will be held this coming November, at which time all the residents and their partners will finally put on their dresses and suits and gather to celebrate the spirit of Christmas past. Each couple is also responsible for providing something on the menu. “Not typical Christmas dishes,” Lagumdzija explains, “but we do cook up something special.” Candles, glittering ornaments and Christmas music all add to the genuine Christmas cheer – even in June or November.
