The letter with this call was distributed among associations and participants of the OWee, the introduction week for new students in Delft.
‘In other cities we have seen that small parties and get-togethers can already cause huge outbreaks of the virus. Such a local outbreak may not feel dangerous for you, but for others in your immediate vicinity it can be very dangerous’, the associations write.
Digital activities
The letter has been signed by 33 associations. This week, a handful of large associations are planning the annual introduction time (KMT) for freshmen. Most associations – such as the Delftsch Student Corps (DSC), the Delftsche Studenten Bond, Virgiel and Sint Jansburg – have opted for a digital and slimmed-down version of the KMT.
In the period after the KMT, most associations will also organise activities for first-year students, some of which will be physical. The associations did not respond to Delta’s previous questions about how they will follow RIVM guidelines in the period after the KMT.
Last Friday, the police handed out large fines because of a party that was held in two student houses on the Coenderstraat in Delft. One of the buildings involved belongs to the Delft Student Corps (DSC), a student association that also signed the letter.
