Bats

Have you seen a bat? The Royal Dutch History of Nature Society wants to know more about the whereabouts of bats in Delft and neighbouring districts. A exhibition about bat species and their way of living is being held at the TU’s Botanic Garden, on the Julianalaan, until October 28th .

Zillion

A parade of student society ‘Virgiel’ members departs from the station square. In seven touring cars, they’ll be travelling to discotheque Zillion in Antwerp, Belgium. The outing, was organised by Akcie, the Activity Committee of Virgiel. To get into the mood, the students started with a Bacardi Breezer cocktail night. “Once inside, you stare your eyes out,” according to Gerard van den Engel. “350 of the 2500 people present were from Virgiel, resulting in a Virgilian loaded dance floor.”

The cloning of eight little Einsteins by Dexter and Deedee (from the cartoon ‘Dexters Laboratoy’ of Cartoon Network) was the starting point for the panel discussion on the possibilities and dangers of modern biotechnology. Due to heavy rainfall, the turnout was disappointing.

These two boys make an effort in cranking the steam engine in the Technique Museum. Making your own shampoo and lemonade were other small experiments in the museum’s fun laboratory

This young scientist makes his raisins dance in a solution ofpurifying salt and vinegar. After the successful performance, she receives a certificate and is the proud possessor of the official degree ‘fun professor in Dexter’s lab’.

Applied Materials Science Engineering has a real crowd puller in the super sportscar Lotus Elice. With a glued aluminium chassis, reinforced fibre plastics in the body and composite disc brake, the car is a driving example of state-of-the-art material’s use.

Anxious, the visitors watch the falling experiment. Soon after, the scratched polycarbonate trial offer appears torn. Marjolein van Leeuwen explains: “So when you have fallen, or your helmet is damaged, you’ve got to buy a new one. A scratched helmet protects you much less then a good specimen.”

Living on Yourself (9)

The stars and stripes in David Gerds’s ‘room en suite’ are a relic from the second lustre of the house. His room is also in use as a living-room, but after removing a couch and a tv-set, peace and quiet returned. The house, where students of the Christian student society CSR live, on Oostsingel, is inhabited by some Citroën lovers: in front three Visa’s and a CX are parked.
