This sculpture brings several things together

Next time you see this sculpture, stop and look a little closely.

Made in 1994 by Delft artist Hans Kuyper, this bronze and stone installation is called Huisje, Boompje, Beestje (House, Tree, Animal). According to the city archives, this sculpture was made to commemorate the renovation of Brabantse Turfmarkt/Burgwal. At first sight it might seem like there are mostly incongruent elements coming together, but next time, stop and look a little closely. As the title suggests, there are different elements, but together they represent the space around the artwork. Just like the intersection it stands on, it brings together water (the canal nearby), trees, homes and the countless passers-by.
