In 1952, Dutch education minister Dr. Theo Rutten inaugurated a canteen on Oude Delft for the students of the university. Called Mensa, it served hot food that was prepared in-house and service was restaurant-style with sit down meals and formally dressed diners. Mensa or eettafel (a table of food) is a common term for places where students can get a cheap meal.

Various student societies at TU Delft welcome non-members to join them over dinner. Check out the list at eettafels.tudelft.nl
